Marsden Point - NZ's Oil Refinery

New Zealand’s only oil refinery was built at Marsden Point, near Whangarei.

Marsden Point, on the south head of Whangarei Harbour entrance, is the site of New Zealand’s only oil refinery. It operates around the clock, 365 days a year. Almost half the fuel output is carried by pipeline to Auckland. The rest is shipped around the country from the deep-water berth at the point.

Marsden Point is set in pleasant surroundings, the nearby beach being a popular swimming area.

Whangarei Falls

Whangarei is New Zealand's northernmost city with about 40,000 population.
This is known as one of the most picturesque waterfalls in New Zealand, and is a very popular Absailing and swimming spot in summer.


The picturesque Whangarei Falls is 26.3 metres high and falls over steep basalt cliffs. It is still popular for picnics and walks. The open areas of the reserve are used for informal games and community events.

Kauri Tree

Tane Mahuta is New Zealand's tallest Kauri tree, situated in the Waipoua Forest, in subtropical Northland. It is approximately 45 feet ( 14 metres) in circumference, and 169 feet ( 52 metres) tall.


Kauri ( pronounced "kah-oo-ree") is a type of pine tree belonging to one of the most ancient families of trees. Kauri's ancestors were to be found between 100 to 200 MILLION years ago. Tane Mahuta ( which means God of the Forest) is believed to be 2000 years old. It is part of a protected Kauri forest.

ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀಗಂಧದ ಮರ ಇದ್ದಂತೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ Kauri ಮರ. ಇದು ಬೆಳೆಯುವುದು ನಿಧಾನವಂತೆ, ಎಲ್ಲೇ ಬೆಳೆದರೂ ಅದು ಸರ್ಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿದ್ದು. ನಮ್ಮ ಮನೆ ಹಿತ್ತಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತಂದು ಹಾಕಿದರೂ ಅದು ಸರ್ಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿದ್ದು...ನಮ್ಮ ಅದೃಷ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ ಅದೇನಾದರೂ ಸತ್ತರೆ, ಅದರ ಜಾಗಕ್ಕೆ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು Kauri ಗಿಡ ತಂದು ನೆಡಬೇಕು! ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀಗಂಧದ ಮರದ ಕೆತ್ತನೆ ಸಾಮಾನುಗಳಿರುವಂತೆ ಮರದ ಕೆತ್ತನೆ ಸಾಮಾನುಗಳಿವೆ. Kauri ಮರದ ಗಡಿಯಾರ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧವಾದದ್ದು...ರೇಟೂ ದುಬಾರಿ ;)

Opononi Sanddunes

Opononi is in the Far North District of New Zealand.
A summer-time holiday spot on the Hokianga inlet,
with beautiful pohutakawa trees lining the sandy shore.
'Opo the Friendly Dolphin' made 1Opononi famous in
the summer of 1955-56. 'Opo' played with the locals
and tourists, whom visited the area in their thousands
just to get a glimpse of this famous dolphin.
A statue in Opononi commemorates Opo's time there.
